What is the Difference Between Conditioning and Deep Conditioning?
Conditioning is typically done in the shower with a thinner conditioning shampoo, while deep conditioning is usually done at a salon with a thick conditioning product. Everyday conditioner is room temperature, and applied for less than five minutes, and deep conditioner can be applied for between 10-30 minutes. Both conditioners are designed for similar results, but most people agree that deep conditioning is much more effective.
Everyday Conditioners
Everyday conditioners are the ones that most people keep in their shower for daily use. These conditioners are a little thinner, close to a shampoo consistency, and are generally safe to use multiple times per week or even daily. Everyday conditioner is usually left in the hair for anywhere between one to five minutes, and can provide a number of benefits to healthy hair. Conditioners can be designed for any combination of the following benefits:
- Strengthening hair
- Softening hair
- Increasing shine
Deep Conditioners
Deep conditioners are an entirely different product, designed to give a more noticeable and long-lasting effect. They are engineered to provide an even more potent effect than everyday conditioners. Deep conditioners are usually a much thicker liquid or paste. When deep conditioners are used, they are massaged into the hair and left there anywhere from 10-30 minutes. On top of that, heat is applied to speed up the conditioner’s beneficial effects. Deep conditioner uses heat and time to penetrate through each strand of hair to provide more noticeable results.
Can I Use Everyday Conditioner as Deep Conditioner?
This question is common because people want the benefits of deep conditioning without having to go to a salon. The short answer is no, using everyday conditioner will never give the same benefits as deep conditioner. This is primarily because everyday conditioner isn’t formulated to penetrate hair to the center. Deep conditioner is designed to work with heat to make sure that every last strand of hair is as silky and supple as can be!
Where Can I Try Deep Conditioning?
Deep conditioning is a fairly simple process but usually requires assistance from someone who knows how to do it. Deep conditioning can be done at home with the help of a family member or friend and a blow dryer. Most people choose to have their deep conditioning done at a hair salon where a professional can get the job done quickly and efficiently!
